Neil Simon's The Good Doctor Middlebury Community Players The Good Doctor is a sometimes thought-provoking, sometimes ridiculously funny series of independent scenes in which brilliant playwright Neil Simon parodies the short stories and dramatic works of Anton Chekhov, set in turn-of-the-century Russia. Alex Nicosia, who stars as "The Writer", leads the audience through short and funny scenes guided by his reflections on societal imbalance, the basic human desire for happiness and, in the end, by his own childhood experience. In one sketch a feisty old woman storms a bank and upbraids the manager for his gout and lack of money. In another, a father takes his son to a brothel where he will be initiated into the mysteries of adulthood, only to relent at the last moment. Let us not forget the classic tale of a man who offers to drown himself for three rubles. The stories are droll, the portraits affectionate, the humor infectious and the fun unending. The cast is comprised of MCP veterans such as Kevin Commins, Scott Remick and Ark Lemal, and newcomers such as Kerianne Severy, Steve Smith and Pearl Teague, among others. Join us for an evening that will leave you smiling. Directed by Kathleen Walls, Produced by JoAnn Brewer. Thu. Nov. 5 at 8pm $12 Fri. Nov. 6 and Sat. Nov. 7 at 8pm $17 Sun. Nov. 8 at 2pm $17
