Apr 3 - May 31    Muffy Kashkin Grollier: Felted Flora, Fauna and Fantasy
Opening Reception: April 3, 5-7pm with a demo at 6pm "Felted, Flora, Fauna and Fantasy" is an exhibit of the felted paintings and mixed media art of Muffy Kashkin Grollier. Muffy presents something of a dichotomy within her work, creating some pieces which are full of vibrant fantasy, while others reflect a representational portrayal of animals and landscapes. The pieces also walk the line between two-dimensional and sculptural due to the layering process of felting and its bas-relief results.

Apr 30 - May 2    Spring Awakening
Set in the sexually oppressive culture of late-19th-century Germany, this play by Frank Wedekind captures the seductions that adolescents harbor in their anxious souls: the alluring chant of nihilism, the feral impulses toward violence, and the thought-obliterating joys of sex. At turns poetic, melancholic, violent, and funny, this once-scandalous play will remain relevant as long as the prism of puberty continues to make the world seem strange and terrifying. Directed by Cláudio Medeiros '90; sponsored by the Theatre Program. Post-show discussion on Friday.

Her work is heavily inspired by historic trends in fabric, font, ceramics and furniture re-mixed with a contemporary scale, palette and a sense of humor. Her use of text is often appropriated directly from hip-hop and indie song lyrics, text messages and collected colloquiums. We will be serving tea and finger food and will have copies of Molly's new book, "a teacup collection; paintings of porcelain treasures" on hand for her to sign for you and a collection of newly printed letterpress cards (a partnership with Big Wheel Press in Easthampton MA) based on her illustrations for many occasions!

May 8    Metamodernist Art by Jean Cherouny
Jean Cherouny remains in the Metamodernist art world with her paint.  This style of painting relates to the turbulent and the "nothing is really happening doomed technological generation" depicting nothing but what is layered on the surface. This compulsion to paint in a technological era and resist the "real" and to "distort space" cultivates the preservation of her ability to move and feel her materials and bring her paint to life. Each paint construction grows, truncates and reconnects to another becoming the inspiration for the next piece - a force that inspires her commitment to keep painting alive everyday in her studio. She lives in Ripton, Vermont.

May 17    Secret Lives at Rokeby Museum
Author Don Papson will be at Rokeby Museum to help us open for the 2015 season. Join us and discover the network of "secret lives" explored in his new book, Secret Lives of the Underground Railroad. Abolitionist newspaper editor Sydney Howard Gay and black New Yorker Louis Napoleon formed an interracial team to aid fugitive slaves during the 1850s. Gay kept a record of their work from 1855 to 1856, and this amazing document is published here for the first time. Papson and his coauthor Tom Calarco bring these two men to life as they recount their activities over many years. Books will be available for sale and signing.
