L/T Teacher: MS Social Studies

Otter Valley is accepting applications for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking, and team-oriented full-time long-term Middle School Social Studies teacher to start as soon as possible. The length of this position may vary, with potential coverage needed through June 2026.

Job Responsibilities
All Otter Valley teachers are expected to:

  • implement standards-aligned units of study and engaging lessons
  • use content-specific pedagogical techniques to engage learners
  • use assessment to inform instruction throughout the learning process
  • create positive classroom cultures focused on relationships, inclusive practices, and reciprocal trust
  • collaborate effectively with colleagues to improve teaching methods and ensure supports are in place for all students
  • Specific responsibilities for this position include:
  • A working knowledge of the Common Core content and recommended practices.
  • An enthusiasm for the craft of writing and ability to work with different rubrics for specific writing tasks.
  • Willingness or experience in working with middle school students
  • Strong communication skills. (Teacher to student, parent, administrator, and other professionals involved in a student’s educational goals.)
  • Understanding of adolescent brain strategies and a willingness to incorporate the practices in the classroom.
  • A willingness to work on practices associated with a PBIS school.
  • Collaborative spirit for a middle level team and advisory / morning meeting team

Education, Training and Experience Requirements
  • Possession of or eligibility for a Vermont teaching license in social studies.
